“The Times They Are a Changin” was written by Bob Dylan in 1964. Yet, it could not be more applicable than today. We are seeing some strange pseudo science in the world.
The sad truth is that much of this pseudo science is in its experimental phase. Guess who the Guinea Pig is, you! We are looking down the barrel of a loaded gun.
Our society is the first or second generation playing out a wild turn of events that has introduced Genetically modified foods into our diet. Not only are the consequences of tampering with the DNA of an organism unknown but its effects on the human body are obviously devastating (1).
What is GMO Food?
A GMO, or Genetically Modified Organism, is a living organism, be it plant or animal, that has had its DNA altered. The alterations are often made by inserting DNA from other plant or animal life into the GMOs DNA.
Now, I am not saying that this is definitively unsafe. I also can’t argue against the process being redeemed. However, the facts do present themselves quite clearly that this is something out of The Twilight Zone.
When we look at the process of the creation of these frankenfoods we are often left with the impression that only one Gene is injected to achieve the desired results. This is a lie. Science is simply not sophisticated enough.
To get the desired gene to take effect scientists must combine it with promoter genes and marker genes. These genes can derive from fish, bacteria, viruses and other sources. Essentially, your injecting multiple genes from multiple living and non living substances into the DNA of say, Corn (1).
What If I Want Fish DNA in My Sweet Corn?
If you’re truly ok with fish DNA there are other major concerns. It lies behind why companies are Genetically Modifying your food. The truth is compelling and will bring you to great knowledge as to how are GMOs bad.
The reason, again, why GMOs are bad does not lie in the injection of fish DNA into your corn DNA. It’s why these companies like Monsanto are doing this. The reason behind the decision to Genetically Modify is what will change your tune.
What is GMO Food and What is Glyphosate?
We all know that the weeds tremble at the site of the Roundup can. Have you ever seen what it does every living organism it comes in contact with?
Glyphosate is Roundup. Glyphosate takes its strength in its ability to use the plants metabolic route to destroy it (2). We’ll get to this more in depth a little later.
Well, because Glyphosate kills everything it can’t be used on crops. It will kill whatever plant it is sprayed on. However, GMOs are the answer!
GMOs make it so a farmer can douse his/her fields in the good old Roundup and watch everything die except their crops. Corn becomes impervious to Glyphosate because of those fish genes (2).
That sounds great, doesn’t it? A crop that never has any weeds and can grow to completion, yielding harvest almost every time seems ideal to me.
Can’t You Rinse The Roundup Off?
This simply cannot be done. When the genes are altered in Roundup Ready Corn we have accomplished something unique and freakish.
The plant grows and not only absorbs normal minerals in the soil but it actually absorbs the round up. The normal mechanism, called the Shikimate Pathway, that plants use for digestion is the secret to this mess (2).
Normally, glyphosate is absorbed by the plant and then as it attempts to absorb the glyphosate for food it deteriorates the metabolic pathway called the Shikimate Pathway (2). That Shikimate Pathway, when disabled, kills the plant, virus or bacteria because it can’t absorb food.
However, Roundup Ready Crops or GMO crops have hijacked this pathway. The Glyphosate no longer destroys that Shikimate. It has traversed it’s normal method of destruction. While still lingering within the plant.
So, you cannot effectively wash the glyphosate off your corn. It has become a part of the plant. It is in the corn and a part of its kernel. This may seem awful, and it is, but it does get worse.
Glyphosate’s Major Effects On Gut Flora
This is where the trouble begins. Within the gut the horror of why GMOs are bad begins to unfold. What we are about to discuss has been proven and shown, through scientific study, to hold ground (1), (2), (3).
We had discussed the Shikimate pathway above. This is essential. There have been many studies to show that because humans have no Shikimate pathway like plants that Round Up is as harmless as aspirin(2).
The issue is that the bacteria in our gut and intestines do have the Shikimate Pathway (2). They are susceptible to the devastating effects of glyphosate (3).
As this horror film begins to get worse, there are now studies showing that the good bacteria in a our gut are more susceptible than most parasites, pathogens and yeasts (3).
Essentially, there is excellent research to show that the Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium, Lactobicillus and other health promoting bacteria are highly susceptible to destruction by Round Up (3). The bad bacteria survive fine.
Things like Salmonella and Botulism have no problem with glyphosate(3). This truth makes the GMO business the scariest thing ever cooked up in a lab.
Major Disease’s and GMO’s
The science is out there. The verdict is in. Since we have introduced genetically modified foods, specifically round up ready corn, into our diet major disease has increased.
Since Glyphosate was introduced to the market in 1990 rates of Liver Cancer, Bladder Cancer, Kidney Cancer, Pelvic Cancer, Thyroid Cancer, Death from Hypertension, and Strokes have risen in tandem (1).
All it takes is to look at one of the graphs that compiled information from the CDC and The United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service Conclusion. These two trusted statistics when paired against each other for any of the major diseases stated above show an exact correlation. A rise in disease with a rise in GMO corn use (1)
I will tell you that ever single disease in the study showed the same pattern as the one above. The truth is in. Will you eat GMOs? Will you allow your body to be destroyed by Glyphosate? It’s you’re choice.
