Here we are again. Back at telling my story. If you missed my first post on my journey you can find it here. Otherwise, let’s talk about where this starts to get interesting.
Music and My Health
As I entered college I started to realize that classical music was my passion. I enjoyed jazz and rock but it wasn’t as fun as classical. I began obsessing over the genre.
It was the first time I had actually listened to the power of Beethoven, Shostakovich, etc. The problem was that I didn’t have any formal training. I had to learn from scratch.
That’s where health food reels itself in. I became extremely good friends of the musician, Ben. We were in a band together with other dedicated musicians. So, we naturally were around each other often.
Hey, what is that?
I was intrigued by the strange concoctions of powders he would consume during practice. At practices his kitchen was littered with health food. I became inquisitive.
Without his generosity to let me try these amazing foods I would never have found the love that I have now for a healthy lifestyle. It was in his kitchen that I learned about minerals, vitamins, omega fatty acids, etc.
It wasn’t quite the wheat & gluten free diet yet. I still had time to learn the importance of gut health.
My life would never be the same. The things I discovered from researching what he shared with me would never escape me. I was forever imprinted.
What Health Food Did For My Studies
Luckily, I had all of these amazing superfoods while I was studying classical music. In a few short months I was mastering many difficult concertos.
For the first time I felt that I could concentrate. By concentrate I mean really concentrate. I could hear things I had never heard and play like I’d never played.
It was clearly because of the mind enhancing foods I was taking daily. It inspired me. In that short time I was able to audition at some of the most prestigious music schools in the nation. I got into all of the schools I auditioned for!
It was an amazing gift. However, the gift was not in the acceptance to the schools but in the knowledge that I had obtained.
Yoga and My Life
I began to obsess over health food like I had music. It began to consume my studies. I would read books, watch seminars, read blogs and consume information. It was a rich time of growth.
At the same time I took up a course in Yoga. The wonderful part was that the Yoga I was learning was not the Vinyasa or flow Yoga that many Americans know.
This Yoga was taught by an Indian man that came to class in his Turban and Garb every day. He looked as if he were 40 years old. When he told the class he was 81 we didn’t believe him. He proved it with his license.
At the same time that I was studying and consuming the most powerful foods on the planet I was taking ancient Yoga classes. These classes influenced my day to day life.
While I was practicing music I would drink insane herbal teas. During breaks I would practice holding asanas or yoga poses.
It was around that time that I met Brenna, my soon to be wife! Neither of us were on the wheat & gluten free diet at that time!
Thanks for reading my story. Tell me, what was a time that you felt like you had explosive growth in many areas? What could you do to take yourself into that type of lifestyle again?
