My Wife and Health Food
My wife and I were studying music at the same time. We both transferred from one music school to another in the same year. It was serendipitous.
As we got to know each other we discovered that we both had similar interests. We loved music and good food. Those two things brought us together like no other.
As I was going through school God tugged on my heart. It was like I could not escape Him. He showed me my need for a savior for my sins. He opened my eyes to Christ’s glorious gift of life, death on a cross and Resurrection.
It was an amazing gift. Now I really had a reason to love health food. God made every last morsel I was enjoying.
Wedded Bliss and Cacao Smoothies
Fast forward. Brenna and I were out of school and getting married. Brenna had been through so much with her mother passing away.
However, through it all we both grew together. We also never lost our love for health food. Brenna learned a lot through veganism and I learned a ton as well.
When we got married we both decided that it was time to drop the Vegan lifestyle. The deficiencies were too grave. We began to eat meat again.
Although we knew little about how to restore gut health, we did consume superfood smoothies daily. I must say, Cacao smoothies have been a staple for me through my entire health journey.
When the Budget Breaks
Brenna started to realize that she was suffering from allergy symptoms related to gluten within the first year of our marriage. We both decided to cut the wheat out.
On the wheat & gluten free diet we both felt better. By simply eliminating gluten, we were well on our way to healing and restoring our gut health I had much less indigestion, stomach discomfort and brain fog. I felt better and looked better!
There was one issue. The cost of our grocery bill was far too high. I was right out of college and the paychecks weren’t cutting it. We were spending way too much money.
We both decided that it was time to go on a budget. We struggled every month. There was never enough money to get all of the organic, gluten free food we needed. Then the impossible happened.
I Lost My Job
We were several months pregnant with our son Gideon when I, the sole provider, lost my position. We had to scramble fast. We were in trouble.
Not only were we on a budget before but now we had to deal with much less money. We needed to make it work.
Don’t ever let anyone tell you they can’t afford to eat healthy. My wife and I lived on unemployment for several months while I found another position.
We made it work. We ate gluten free and healthy during that entire time. Some weeks were tight and we had to cut a lot. Yet, we somehow always seemed to make it work.
In Closing to My Journey
