Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell. Most wonder what they really are. Well, they sure accomplish a lot for our body.
The mitochondria power every cell within our body. They give the cell the energy to function and give you energy. Researchers are now revealing them to be the most important factor in how we age and feel.
This article will explore mitochondria and their link to our health. Let’s talk about what they are, how they effect our day to day and how our gut effects them directly.
What Are Mitochondria
Mitochondria are small bacteria. Like the bacteria in our gut. They have one purpose and one purpose only; to make energy for our cells. This is the essence of our vibrance and our health.
When the mitochondria are sick or not functioning properly we feel sick or ill. Actually, research is revealing that weak mitochondria cause aging and disease. Some scientists believe that we could stop aging if we could understand the mitochondria on a deeper level.
Regardless, the mitochondria power the cell in one way and one way only. They produce ATP energy. This is the energy that our cells run on. Without it, we would die.
So, the mitochondria take whatever they can for fuel, normally glucose, and translates that fuel into this ATP energy. This process dictates the health of the cell.
Are Your Mitochondria Healthy?
This is the number one question to ask yourself, “Are my mitochondria healthy?” These powerhouses dictate your health. If you feel weak, tired, depressed, lethargic, foggy and/or are sick the answer is no.
Many scientists believe that Cancer is a metabolic disorder. The cell is not the problem. The DNA is not the problem. It is the weak mitochondria’s inability to provide proper energy that mutates the cell.
These are questions you must ask yourself. If you are constantly sick or not able to function you must consider some actions to rejuvinate your mitochondria.
How The Gut Effects Mitochondrial Health
Well, we are all about gut health here, obviously. So, to know that the mitochondria play such an important role we also must understand how our gut effects our mitochondria.
Many of us are experiencing a form of leaky gut. Gut permeability or leaky gut is caused by small holes or tears in the gut lining. This gut lining is only a cell in thickness and is not hard to tear.
Normally, our bodies would be able to heal small tears or holes. However, we don’t have the proper nutrition, we are consuming anti-nutrients that prevent healing and we have an overgrowth of bad bacteria. All of this will proliferate Leaky Gut.
The issue with Leaky Gut is that it allows food particles to leak into the blood stream. When these particles leak it is often toxic to our body. Not only are we consuming toxic food but there are now toxic by-products in our environment from mass pollution.
As you ingest these toxic chemicals from your food or water they pass through your gut. Normally, that lining would protect your body. However, when you have a leaky gut your body is not protected.
Those toxins leak into the blood stream. Our mitochondria will actually take on these toxins as fuel. This causes extremely weak mitochondria and poor health.
