I know what you’re thinking….how on earth can chocolate syrup be considered healthy?
Well, first all, let me clarify.
If you are talking about the commercial brands of chocolate syrup you buy in the store loaded with preservatives and LOADS of sugar then…no….that’s not healthy for you. At all.
HOWEVER…..
When you can make your own chocolate syrup at home with healthy, pure ingredients, then Yes! Chocolate syrup CAN be healthy for you and safe for your gut.
Of course, I’m not recommending you drizzle this syrup all over EVERYTHJNG for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Umm….no.
My recipe is intended to be an occasional treat. You know, when you you’re just craving a big glass of chocolate milk. Or you just bought some dairy free or organic ice cream (hopefully sugar free) and you want a good ol’ fashioned ice cream sundae but don’t want all the insulin spiking sugar.
To make my syrup sugar free, I used a plant derived sugar free sweetener called Lakanto Monkfruit. I will explain the benefits of using Lakanto as a sugar free sweetener in a future post. But, for now, just know it’s a great sugar free option that is safe for your gut.
I hope you indulge in this beautiful sauce and enjoy every moment. Stir a few Tablespoons of it into a big glass of coconut milk! Treat yo-self!
