What would summer BBQ’s be without a chilled, crunchy coleslaw as a side?!?! I LOVE a good coleslaw. Whether coupled with a BBQ pulled pork sandwich or alongside my favorite grilled chicken, coleslaw is a great complement to most any summer meal.
Of course, as with most anything, your standard coleslaw recipe is loaded with terrible, unhealthy ingredients. This may surprise you as coleslaw is mostly veggies, right? However, the standard coleslaw recipe is loaded with rancid oils such as canola or soybean oil, Corn Starch (which is GMO unless otherwise labeled), natural flavor (what the heck does that actually mean?) and LOTS of sugar. Yes, this is mostly from that nasty mayonnaise.
My solution? Make your own mayo or buy a healthy mayo that uses organic, free-range eggs, healthy oils such as avocado or olive oil, not a lot of sugar. They do exist, trust me. However, they are fairy expensive. That’s why I usually make our own mayonnaise as it’s much cheaper. You can get my easy recipe by clicking HERE.
This classic mayo recipe is also refined sugar free. I use just a dash if Stevia to taste and it works perfectly! I hope you will enjoy this recipe as much as we do! Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section below as I would love to hear from you!
