One of my favorite Christmas traditions growing up was helping my mom bake dozens of Christmas cookies! I especially loved making basic cut-out sugar cookies because a) they are SO much fun to frost and decorate and b) they taste incredible, even without all the frosting and sprinkles.
Fast forward years later and here I am craving a warm sugar cookie from my childhood. Yet, all my mom’s recipes are loaded with white flour and sugar: two ingredients that I avoid completely since they destroy your gut and weaken your overall health and vitality.
The good news is, there are many healthy ingredients that you can use to swap out the nasty sugar and flour products. And that’s why I created this recipe!
This classic Old Fashioned Sugar Cookie recipe has it all covered: Gluten free, Dairy free (although you could use Pastured butter if you wish), Sugar free and Grain free. It’s even Nut free which is even better for those who are intolerant to nuts. I personally don’t like to to bake with nuts flours in general as the large amount of nuts you get from just one cup of an almond flour is hard for your gut to digest and is high in Omega 6. I use a combination of Tapioca flour and Coconut flour in this recipe which act as great prebiotic fiber for your beneficial bacteria! A win, win in my book!
I hope you are having a beautiful holiday season with those you love! Make up a batch of these delicious sugar cookies ( well…they should be called Stevia cookies actually, because there’s no sugar! lol) and decorate away!
STORING TIP: To store cookies, place in a freezer bag and freeze. Before serving, thaw cookies from freezer and be sure to warm on a baking sheet in a 350 degree oven for about 7-10 minutes. Enjoy!
