I have never been a big fan or regular oatmeal. My mom would make it all the time when I was growing up. Especially during the cold winter months. And although it always tasted good, I never felt that great afterwards.
Fast forward years later and now I understand why I probably didn’t feel the best from those good ol’ fashioned oats. Most conventional oats, even when labeled Gluten Free are cross-contaminated with gluten. Not mention all the other factors that contaminate the oats such as aflatoxins and other molds due to non-ideal storage conditions.
That’s why I’m in love with Buckwheat groats! Although often considered a grain, Buckwheat groats are actually a gluten free seed. They are digested differently than your standard gluten free grain and are loaded with nutrients.
Usually, I’m not a big fan of eating grains. However, Buckwheat is exceptionally healthy for you. I would advise you to follow my instructions for presoaking them for a minimum of 12 hours. Soaking them with a little Apple Cider Vinegar helps remove Phytic Acid and other gut irritants which can cause irritation to your gut lining. Soaking also helps you digest them more easily which is especially important for optimum gut health. So don’t skip over this important step!
I hope you enjoy this easy and delicious breakfast recipe as much as we do!
