I LOVE shakes and smoothies for breakfast! It’s my favorite way to start my day. Plus it’s fast and easy which is a MUST when you are a busy mom chasing after a crazy little boy!
That’s why I’m so excited to share one of our favorite chocolate shake recipes with you! I keep it dairy free and use Unsweetened Vanilla Coconut Milk but feel free to choose whatever milk you like.
Being that this is a superfood smoothie, we incorporate as many superfoods as we happen to have on hand. Our mainstays are always Chia Seeds, Cacao Powder, Maca Powder, Bee Pollen, and Coconut oil. Aside from those, my other favorites are Goji berries (about 1 tablespoon sweetens the shake perfectly) Macuna and Shilashit.
Why superfoods, you might ask? Well, due to the fact that there is so much to say on this topic Jake and I are planning to write a whole series on our favorite superfoods. I’ll keep it simple.
These all individually provide incredible nutrients for your body. When put together it is an incredible symphony of nutrients!
For a sweetener, there is a lot of liberty here. I usually use either raw honey or coconut sugar but LOVE using goji berries if we have them.
WHAT ARE SUPERFOODS?
We all know that nutrient density is important. Sadly many of us are eating a diet that is loaded with calories but consume little nutrition.
Superfoods is quite the broad topic. However, there are some foods that definitely fall in this category. We could say that broccoli is a superfood. I mean, of course it’s good for you.
Yet, broccoli would not fall in what I consider a super food. Something like Maca powder would instead be a “superfood.” Maca grows in extremely high altitudes. Say 10,000+ feet above sea level.
It was consumed by the Incans in the Andes mountains for hundreds if not thousands of years. It helps the body to deliver more oxygen into the blood stream. This helps with high altitudes.
However, this cruciferous root vegetable is so much more than that. It contains the rare B1 and B2. Also containing over 20 amino acids, 20 fatty acids, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Potassium and Iron. That’s not to mention its antioxidants.
LET’S GET TO THE SHAKE!
Regardless, you get the idea. One ingredient in this smoothie is enough to keep you happy, healthy and wise. However, combine all that is in this shake and you’re doing really well on the nutrition scale.
This shake is calculated and each food contains massive amounts of nutrients. Each superfood being as powerful as the last. I hope that it helps you to live an awesome life.
